Team Calamari is a fifth year FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team located in Westerville, Ohio. Our team provides the opportunity for students to explore interests in STEM. Through this experience, students also learn skills in business and organization, in addition to engineering. Former students have gone on to study engineering at The Ohio State University and have worked at NCI, Inc. and The Ohio State University.

Our strategy is divided into three phases, brainstorming, prototyping, and finalizing.  During brainstorming, we generate ideas for possible ways to accomplish our task.  Once we have settled on a rough idea, we do more detailed planning of exactly how it will work.  This includes sketching and making measurements, making a simple prototype out of cardboard, and making a CAD file of the idea.

Our team focuses on engineering and building robots from raw materials rather than TETRIX. This challenges us to create well planned designs and gives us skills with a variety of tools. We are able to use raw materials combined with CAD to create our final robot with a CNC machine.

We’re headed to the Ohio FTC State Championship!

Saturday, February 9, 2019 — Four years after the team’s beginning, Team Calamari is headed to the Ohio FTC State Championship!! After beginning to understand how FIRST Tech Challenge worked, we began an effort to revitalize and focus on building high quality, carefully engineered robots during the 2017-2018 Relic Recovery season. As result of this effort, …
